Francisco Silva is Associate Professor w/ Habilitation. He is currently Coordinator of CIDEM - Center for Research and Development im Mechanical Engineering at ISEP (since 2023). He was Director of the Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (2014-2022). He was member of the Technical and Scientific Council of ISEP (2020-2022), and he was member of the Pedagogic Coulcil of ISEP (2020-2022). He was Deputy Director of the Mechanical Engineering Department from 2014 to 2016. He was Director of the Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering from 2003 to 2006 at ESEIG, Vila do Conde, Portugal. He was member of the General Council at IPP - Polytechnic Institute of Porto, member of the Scientific Council at ESEIG and member of the Pedagogic Council at ESEIG. He is author of the book "Tecnologia da Soldadura - Uma Abordagem Técnico-Didáctica", as well as of the book "Impressão 3D - Tecnologias, Materiais e Aplicações", Publindústria, Porto (2016 and 2024), co-editor of the book Lean Manufacturing - Implementation, Opportunities and Challenges, Nova Science, NY, U.S.A. (2019), and  main author of the book "Cleaner Production - Toward a better future", Springer Nature, Switzerland, 2020, among more than 20 international books. He has supervised more than 220 MSc. dissertations and co-supervised 4 PhD Thesis already finished, co-supervising more 8 PhD students at the moment. He is co-author of more than 350 scientific papers in journals like Results in Engineering, Journal of Materials Research & Technology, Wear, Surface and Coatings Technology, Vacuum, Thin Solid Films, Journal of Cleaner Production, Advances in Manufacturing, Composites Part B - Engineering, Journal of Manufacturing Processes, Robotics and Computer-Integrated Manufacturing, International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, Journal of the Brazilian Society of Mechanical Sciences and Engineering, Journal of Tribology (ASME), Procedia Manufacturing, Corporate Social Responsability and Environmental Management, Sustainability, Coatings, Metals, Materials, Machines, FME Transactions, International Journal of Industrial Engineering and Management,  etc. He is founder and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing (Scilight Press, Australia). He is Associate Editor of the journal Mechanics-Based Design of Structures and Machines (Taylor & Francis). He is Editorial Board Member of the scientific journal COATINGS (MDPI), SOLIDS (MDPI), MATERIALS (MDPI) and MACHINES (MDPI), among others. He has conducted more than 25 Special Issues in MDPI, SPRINGER, SAGE and AIMS scientific journals. He founded and was the Editor-in-Chief of the journal of Coating Science Technology and Co-Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Research Updates in Polymer Science (LifeScience Global). He usually acts as Reviewer for journal such as: Journal of Cleaner Production (Elsevier), Robotics (Elsevier), Composites Part A (Elsevier), Metals (MDPI), Coatings (MDPI), Materials (MDPI), MicroMachines (MDPI), Journal of Materials: Design and Applications (SAGE), Production and Planning Control (Taylor and Francis), Theoretical and Applied Fracture Mechanics (Elsevier), Journal of the Brazilian Society of Mechanical Sciences and Engineering (Springer), Surface and Coatings Technology (Elsevier), Wear (Elsevier), etc. He awarded the MDPI TOP REVIEWER Award in 2018 and the METALS TOP REVIEWER in 2019. One of his papers was awarded with the Best Paper Award of COATINGS (MDPI, 2019), among others. He owns a patent on how to deposit diamong coatings onto ferrous substrates.
